RackSense comprises of Hardware & Software
RackSense Wireless Hardware Component
Wireless Rack Monitor Controller (RMC)
The Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) comprises two main components: a 42U asset strip and a controller module. The asset strip, divided into seven 6U sections, is mounted on the left side of the rack, while the controller module is positioned at the top of the rack. The asset strip is equipped with directional antennas managed by the controller module, enabling precise control and monitoring. Additionally, the strip includes multi-color LED indicators to display status information at a glance..
Wireless Battery Operated Asset Tag
The Asset Tag is a battery-operated device equipped with a motion sensor, designed to be mounted on servers using a secure holder. With a typical battery life of up to 2 years, the tag provides long-lasting asset tracking capabilities. It also includes a tamper detection feature that triggers an alert if the tag is removed from the server, ensuring asset security at all times.
Wireless Battery Operated Temp & Humidity Sensor
The Battery-Operated Temperature and Humidity Sensor transmits environmental data to the controller every 30 seconds. It provides high accuracy, with a temperature precision of ±1°C and a humidity accuracy of ±3% RH. Additionally, the sensor calculates the dew point based on the temperature and humidity readings. Powered by a CR2450 battery, it offers reliable, long-lasting performance for continuous monitoring.
Door Contact Sensor
The Door Contact Sensor is a magnetic switch connected to the Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) unit via a dedicated cable connector. When the rack door is opened or closed, the magnetic switch detects the change in position, sending a signal to the RMC. This real-time monitoring enhances security by providing immediate alerts for unauthorized access or door status changes, allowing for swift action if needed.
Camera Module
The Camera Module connects to the Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) via a USB connector, enabling it to capture images upon receiving signals from the RMC. These signals are triggered by specific events, such as door openings and closings or asset movement within the rack. By capturing event-based images, the Camera Module provides visual documentation for enhanced security and asset management.
RackSense Wired Hardware Component
Wired Rack Monitor Controller
The Wired Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) consists of two main components: a 42U asset strip and a controller module. The asset strip, divided into seven 6U sections, is mounted on the left side of the rack and connects to the controller module via a Type-C cable connector. The controller module, positioned at the top of the rack, manages data from the asset strip, which features magnetic connectors for attaching wired asset tags to determine U-level location. The controller can be powered either through a mains connection or via Power over Ethernet (PoE) for flexible installation options.
Wired Asset Tag
The Wired Asset Tag features a pair of connectors: one attaches to a cable that connects directly to the asset strip, while the other mounts on the back of the asset, allowing additional tags to be linked in sequence. This design is especially useful for blade servers where multiple servers share the same U-level. Up to 20 asset tags can be connected in tandem, enabling efficient monitoring and precise location tracking for densely populated rack spaces.
Wired Temp & Humidity Sensor
The Wired Temperature and Humidity Sensor connects to the Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) using the SPI protocol, with support for up to three sensors linked to a single RMC. Sensor data, including temperature, humidity, and calculated dew point, is updated and transmitted to the RMC every 30 seconds. This setup allows for continuous environmental monitoring, ensuring precise measurements and contributing to optimal data center conditions.
Wired Door Contact Sensor
The Door Contact Sensor is a magnetic switch connected to the Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) unit via a dedicated cable connector. When the rack door is opened or closed, the magnetic switch detects the change in position, sending a signal to the RMC. This real-time monitoring enhances security by providing immediate alerts for unauthorized access or door status changes, allowing for swift action if needed.
Wired Camera Module
The Camera Module connects to the Rack Monitor Controller (RMC) via a USB connector, enabling it to capture images upon receiving signals from the RMC. These signals are triggered by specific events, such as door openings and closings or asset movement within the rack. By capturing event-based images, the Camera Module provides visual documentation for enhanced security and asset management.
